Chinese head to Europe for annual Spring Festival

225 million Chinese tourists are expected to travel during the annual Spring Festival which follows the New Year celebrations from 31 January. As they increasingly opt for international destinations, Europe remains a popular choice as Kuoni Group Travel Experts says that Italy, France and Switzerland are leading Spring Festival destinations for group travel. Furthermore, GTA puts Germany, Italy and France in the top five destinations for fully independent travellers (FIT).

GTA sourcing conference could help Morocco attract more of the world’s travellers

140 buyers visit Marrakech for GTA’s third annual EMEA Sourcing Conference, giving them a brief flavour of the destination and the accommodation and experiences it offers and helping Morocco raise its profile on a global stage. Marrakech remains the most popular destination for fully independent travel (FIT) to Morocco, followed by Casablanca and Tangier, while the number of room nights booked by Chinese travellers quadrupled last year.

Italy overtakes USA as Spanish travellers’ most popular destination

Italy, Spain, the United States, the United Kingdom and Portugal were leading destinations for Spain’s fully independent travellers in 2013. Italy took top position pushing the USA into third, while Spain moved into second place. The UK and Portugal moved into the top five last year, edging out France. Room nights booked in Portugal showed the greatest year on year growth, while Japan and Australia showed double digit growth in 2013.

GTA launches Queensland Australia promotion for GCC travel agents

Tourism & Events Queensland and global travel distributor GTA welcome 120 travel agents from the GCC. They will participate in two roadshows in Abu Dhabi (20 January) and Dubai to showcase accommodation and experiences in ‘Australia’s playground’. A four-page flyer has been launched with a series of special offers for Middle Eastern travellers.

Finnish travellers show increasing interest in Spain, says GTA’s TravelCube

GTA heads to Matka, the Nordic Travel Fair, to promote a rich range of accommodation, services, destinations and experiences around the world to travel agents from Finland. Booking data shows that Spain and the UK enjoyed the greatest growth with double digit increases in room nights while the promise of sun, sea and sand increasingly lured three times as many Finnish to the Balearics.
